XP still rules & Win 7 lags behind Vista!!

Questions and discussion about the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System

XP still rules & Win 7 lags behind Vista!!

Postby ozbloke » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:55 am

Thought you might like to see the latest market share statistics for operating systems. I certainly found them interesting:

Note #1: XP retains a dominant market share, which is still more than double that of Vista and Windows 7 combined!!

Note #2: Despite being heralded as the new great M$ hope, Windows 7 still lags behind Vista. Yes, that is certain to change at some time down the track but with all the hype Windows 7 has received it is surprising (to me anyway) that some 9 months after release date Windows 7 has not yet overtaken the much maligned Vista's market share.

Jim (i know your name now)

Many users are still waiting for service pack-1 for Windows-7. Vista came out very crappy and that fear still exists in users like me, waiting for service pack-1. Rumors are that it is in beta, so lets hope for this year end..

Hey John - Yes, the Beta version of SP1 for Win 7 has been available for a little while now, but it is far from the finished product and installation is not recommended. The final version (for general consumption) is mooted for release somewhere in the first half of 2011.

There is no doubting SP1 for Vista improved that operating system markedly (I like Vista very much by the way), but I don't believe SP1 will have the same impact on Win 7. Moving from XP to Vista was a major revamp for M$ but Vista was a sort of Beta version of Win 7, so much of the homework had already been done.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see! :)

Cheers mate....Jim

Then there's me -- I see no reason to upgrade perfectly working hardware for an OS that may or may not have more than just bells and whistles add ons.

Until my XP lappy dies a horrible death, I don't foresee upgrading -- and when I do it very likely may be Linux.

Carry on wayward sons.

Wish you well though mate...I really do.

Came across a friend who has all three o/s, since the o/s were bundled with each computer. Asked if he saw any differences, he said he preferred XP, and that Vista and Windows 7 offered nothing new. At least he won't be left in the cold when one o/s dies, Mindblower!

Wow, 3 diff OS in one.. 8)

Well as I understand the reason of liking XP is that ur friend (& also me) is used to XP as it has been there for a long time

XP had a substantial change from Windows-2000, so it picked up very quickly. Just like 2000 was picked like a mad cow compared to Win-98.

Vista was a crap which caused havoc to go for a new M$ OS. It should not be surprised to see people using W98 and W2000, as the 2nd OS.

Thanks,
