Hey cg - And welcome to the forum.

I never rated the old Ad-Aware Free myself....thought it was pretty useless. Although, it must be said it was among the very first of its kind, so one must grant some latitude.

I haven't tried out the newer version myself, simply because I am already very happy with my existing security setup. However, given that the program would have improved dramatically since those early days, may be well worth a try for many.

One thing which has been pointed out to me since my initial post....the download file size is a whopping 122.79MB. Now that is a hefty download!!

Cheers.....Jim

No great secret Grr.....I've mentioned my security setup on many occasions:

Avast Free
Online Armor Free
WinPatrol Plus (paid 99cents on a special deal)
SuperAntiSpyware Free + MBAM Free (for on demand scans)
LinkExtend (site advisory service)
Secunia PSI

Plus, arguably the best of all...Sandboxie.

If I need to check out software for you guys and am entering unknown/risky territory I always use Sandboxie.

Been using that setup (or similar) for years and haven't experienced any sort of infection since Adam was a boy!! Oops, hope that statement doesn't invoke Murphy's law!! ;)

Cheers mate....Jim

Hey Grr - Yes, they are similar lists. I like the sound of 'Private Firewall' but never tried it as I have always been happy with Online Armor. Would be my second choice though.

Are you using Firefox as your main browser? The reason I ask is because although I do like WOT, I much prefer LinkExtend which incorporates ratings from 7 advisory services...including WOT and MSA. Unfortunately though, LinkExtend is only available for Firefox.

There is nothing wrong with being fearful of malware infections. At least that approach will help keep you mindful and cautious.

Cheers mate....Jim

At one time, Ad-Aware was on all my machines, just like Spybot and a few other basic freeware security/malware apps. Eventually, it got big and bloated, and I turned my back on it. The latest incarnation is no exception - the download is 123 MB!

Thanks for the heads up; I sure some will find this more appealing than I do.
