Cleaners - how many should I be using?

I have CCleaner, SlimCleaner, and DiskMax installed on my computer.  All were free.  They seem to clean a lot of the same places but a few different things, too.  Is one better than another?  Should I run all three?  Can I get rid of at least one?  Thanks!

There are certainly plenty to choose from BJ. Smile

I don't think it hurts having more than one of these types of programs installed on machines running modern hardware. They are generally lightweight and don't usually involve background running processes.

Don't know much about DiskMax, I really like SlimCleaner, and CCleaner is just so safe and trustworthy. If I had to pick one to get rid of, it would probably be DiskMax. But, if you have plenty of hard drive space, aren't noticing any slowdowns, and the machine is generally running fine, I see nothing wrong with keeping all three.

Cheers... Jim

Thanks for the reply, Jim.  One more question...  Is it safe to use the registry cleaner on CCleaner?    Thanks.

Absolutely BJ. One of CCleaner's most appreciated qualities is that it is very safe to use. It may not be quite as effective as some of the more recent offerings, or more aggressive registry cleaners, but it is a proven safe application.

For absolute safety, you can always utilize CCleaner's back-up feature. When the registry scan has completed and you click on the "Fix selected entries" button, it will ask if you want to save a backup. Just say 'Yes' and select a 'save' location (My Documents is as good as anywhere). If any problems ensue, just go to the saved registry backup and double click to restore those items. After a couple of weeks, if everything is okay, you can delete the older backups.

Mind you, I've never needed to do that in all the years I've been using CCleaner, it's merely a precaution.

Cheers... Jim

I have been using Ccleaner for the last 3 years and have yet to say anything negative. I see no need with using other cleaners when Ccleaner does an excellent job and is very safe. It does have a few others features which are quite good like Registry Cleaner, Start Up feature, File Finder, System Restore, Drive Wiper, Include and Exclude files & folders from scanning and removal, Cookies keep or delete feature, System Monitor and a Uninstall tool. I find it more than complete and really unnecessary to have other tools when Ccleaner does so much. Sure, there are tools that perform better but it's really not a big deal.

Let's put it this way: If you were looking to clean a very dirty floor and there were two cleaning products available, both free - one which thoroughly cleaned the floor so it was near enough to pristine condition again, and another which only cleaned off some of the grime leaving bits and pieces behind - which product would you choose?

How quickly people forget. Not that long ago, there was an excellent article on PrivaZer, and that's my cleaner now. It's safe and you can clean as little or as much as you want, meaning, that your tracks are not just deleted via trash can, but overwritten to the point they are unrecoverable, Mindblower!

I was just discussing this with a friend lol

Like everyone else lol i use CCleaner (use it in business everyday) it's a stellar program i have the business edition version which cleans all user accounts on the computer i can find no fault in it of course once i find a program that works for my needs i don't go looking for others. I don't believe you need to have 30 different programs that do the same thing if they do something different then another one does fine. but as for registry cleaners ccleaner is it because you don't want too many different types of cleaners on there because just like having multiple anti virus scanners they do more harm them good. besides that you really don't want to be cleaning the registry all the time either 6-12 months is my time frame unless i'm uninstalling and reinstalling programs a lot. I look at the registry like a good pair of boots once they are all clean and new like you have to break them in to achieve that comfortable feel same goes for the registry if it's not broken don't fix it.
